Tennis team bounces back for a win

Ramona High’s tennis team lost to Mt. Carmel and beat Valley Center in Valley League action. The Lady Dawgs are now 8-7 overall and are 7-5 in league action.

The team lost to Mt. Carmel 14-4. Elizabeth Branco and Ashley Shields scored 3 points in doubles action to pace the Lady Dawgs.

Branco and Shields went 7-5, 6-1 and 6-1. Rachel Williams and Brittany Larzalere posted scores of 3-6, 1-6 and 2-6.

Alexa Stykel and Sami Marsch picked up a point by going 3-6, 4-6 and 6-1.

In singles action, Katie Hoffman went 0-6, 2-6 and 1-6. Emily Sutch went 0-6, 0-6 and 1-6. Rebecca Romero went 0-6, 0-6 and 2-6.

The Lady Dawgs bounced back to beat Valley Center 11-7 in a match where every player earned at least 1 team point.

The doubles teams paced the victory. Shields and Branco went 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) and 6-1. Williams and Larzalere won 3 team points by going 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3. Marsch and Stykel recorded scores of 2-6, 6-1 and 6-0.

In singles action Katie Hoffman went 2-6, 0-6 and 6-0. Emily Sutch went 0-6, 2-6 and 6-0. Rebecca Romero went 0-6, 1-6 and 6-0.

The Lady Dawgs have a bye this week. Next they will compete in the CIF team playoffs and then on to the Valley League individual meet and the CIF individual meet.

Junior varsity

The junior varsity lost to Mt. Carmel 12-6. Jennica Castillo won two sets by going 6-0, 5-6 and 6-3. Rachel Vaca also won 2 points going 6-4, 6-1 and 4-6. Jessica Mendoza went 4-6, 2-6 and 5-7.

In doubles action Jordan McWhorter and Andrea Briseno went 1-6, 2-6 and 6-3. Laura Meng and Taryn Canady went 1-6, 0-6 and 2-6. Aida Smith and Amy Jordan went 3-6, 4-6 and 6-1.
