Museum establishes Voices of Pioneer Women Book Club

The Guy B. Woodward Museum announces The Voices of Pioneer Women Book Club, made possible by a valued donation of 450 historical books about the lives of pioneer women from the late Sheila Klippert.

Establishing themselves on the American frontier as mothers, grandmothers, children and single women, these women soon discovered that adjustments to this new, demanding, and often hostile environment would require extraordinary efforts and many sacrifices. Until these diaries, journals, letters, and books began surfacing in the last century, a woman’s position and contribution remained largely under-appreciated or ignored.

The books have been catalogued to check out to members of the Voices of the Pioneer Women’s Book Club. A onetime tax-deductible donation of $28 entitles book club members to check out two books at a time on either Thursday or Saturday by appointment. For more information, call the museum at 789-7644.

The Guy B. Woodward Museum, at 845 Main Street is open for docent tours of the Verlaque House, circa 1886 fully furnished in period, and the museum grounds from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
