Girls tennis team wins 1, loses 1

The Lady Bulldog tennis team lost a road match to San Marcos and beat Oceanside at Riviera Oaks to improve to 5-6 on the year. The Lady Dawgs are 4-4 in the Valley League.

Ramona’s doubles teams earned 6 of the 7 team points in the Lady Dawgs’ 11-7 loss at San Marcos.

Katie Hoffman and Rachel Williams took three sets by posting scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-3. Ashley Shields and Elizabeth Branco won two points by going 7-5, 6-7 (7-5) and 6-0. Sami Marsch and Alexa Stykel also picked up a team point by going 6-2, 1-6 and 4-6.

Emily Sutch won a set by going 0-6, 0-6 and 6-0. Brittany Larzalere went 0-6, 0-6 and 0-6. Rebecca Romero went 0-6, 0-6 and 2-6.

The Lady Bulldogs bounced back to beat Oceanside 17-1. Sutch won three points by going 6-0, 6-3 and 6-0. Larzalere went 6-0 and 6-0 and won by default. Romero won by forfeit and went 4-6 and 6-0.

In doubles action, Shields and Blanco were nearly perfect by going 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. Hoffman and Williams also turned in stellar scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. Marsch and Stykel won three sets going 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1.

Junior varsity

The junior varsity ladies’ tennis team lost to San Marcos 11-7.

Rachel Vaca had an excellent match.

“Rachel was down 0-4 and 0-3 and came back to win both sets,” stated Coach Ken Scheib.

Vaca went 6-0, 6-4 and 6-4. Jennica Castillo went 6-0, 2-6 and 6-4. Taryn Canady went (12-10), 3-6 and 0-6.

The JVs beat Oceanside 15-3. The doubles teams took all nine doubles points. Andrea Briseno and Jordan McWhorter went 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0. Jessica Mendoza and Aida Smith went 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0. Amy Jordan and Ali Geber recorded scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1.

In singles action Jennica Castillo won three sets by scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0. Vaca went 7-5, 6-0 and 6-0. Laura Meng went 0-6, 5-7 and 1-6.

In doubles action, Briseno and McWhorter went 4-6, 2-6 and 6-4. Abigail Ward and Gerber went 2-6. Laura Meng and Jordan went 1-6 and 3-6. Mendoza and Smith went 2-6 and 5-7.Mendoza and Jordan went 1-6.
