Ramona High School’s boys water polo team extended its losing streak to three with defeats at home October 7 against Valley Center and Oct. 9 at Westview.

The losses dropped Ramona to 2-4 in Valley League play and gave the Bulldogs a 3-8 overall record.

“We didn’t do too well,” said Coach Donnie Williams.

The 12-2 loss to Valley Center saw the Jaguars lead by only a 2-1 edge after the first period.

“I thought we did play well early on,” Williams said.

The Jaguars built a 7-1 halftime lead and were ahead 8-1 after three quarters.

“We shut them down early, and then we just couldn’t keep them shut down,” Williams said. “We couldn’t generate any offense at all.”

Mike Studley scored both Ramona goals, while Chase Sessions scored ten of Valley Center’s goals.

“We’ve just got to do a better job of shutting down a player like that,” Williams said of Sessions.

The loss to Westview was by an 11-3 score.

“I’ve got to develop some two-meter play,” Williams said. “We’ve got to be passing better with our man-ups.”

The Wolverines led 9-0 after three periods. In the fourth quarter Todd Cope scored Ramona’s first goal on a cross from Alan Williams, Studley’s pass to Kari Gonter gave the Bulldogs their second goal, and Mike Jones closed out Ramona’s scoring on a counterattack.

The second round of Valley League play begins today when the Bulldogs host Mount Carmel.
