Holiday Bikes for Kids

Share

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Greg Griswold, with sheriff’s Lt. Duncan Fraser from the Ramona Substation to his right and sheriff’s Deputy Pam Murphy to his left, talks to television crews and other media this morning about the joint fire and sheriff department effort to restore bicycles for the holidays. Firefighters from Ramona Fire Department stations and Intermountain Fire-Rescue Department are restoring 15 bicycles from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Property and Evidence Unit to be given to children whose families otherwise may not be able to provide their children with a bicycle. Firefighters at the four stations, using their own money, are repairing or replacing the bikes that could not be fixed. San Diego Country Estates Association will give five $20 gift certificates from Wal-Mart to be used to purchase helmets for five youngsters. The bikes, with new bicycles donated by Ramona’s Soroptimist Club and Rotary Club, will be distributed at the Ramona Chamber of Commerce Christmas Tree Lighting at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center Pavilion from 3 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 13.
