Report of explosion prompts ground and air search in Country Estates

Share

Sheriff and fire officials responding to calls of an explosion or

shots in San Diego Country Estates Monday night about 10:20 searched

the area but did not find the source of the loud noise.

Reports came

from Ysidro Road and from Rutherford Road near Acanto Drive. One caller

reported seeing a plume of smoke north of Rutherford near Acanto,

according to the sheriff’s Ramona Substation.

Ramona Fire Department

trucks and sheriff’s officers searched the area, and a helicopter

circled from the air. One caller told the sheriff’s department the

noise was “really loud and sounded like it could be shots” and another

said it “vibrated the house,” the sheriff’s department reported.

After

searching the area, sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Leathers reported that officers

were unable to determine if the noise was fireworks or a firearm.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact the Ramona Substation at 789-9157.
