Boys U12 soccer ends league play in third place

Ramona Boys Intra Soccer Boys Under 12 had an exciting end to their league play.

Going into the last game of the season, Ramona was in fifth place in the league that included several ties and close total points. By winning the last three of their league games, the team finished third in the league for this age group.

There was a lot of great play in the games, said coaches. Here are some of the highlights that stand out in the last two games.

Ramona played an away game against the Oceanside Breaker Nov. 14, winning 5-2. Offensively, three goals were scored by forward Carter Braxtan, one goal by center mid Ethan Hatch, and a header goal off a corner kick by Tony Alba.

Forward Omar Martinez assisted with two goals. Shots on goals were also attempted by forwards Aedan Maruna, Alex Medina, Joshua MacDonald, and Dillon Alwan.

Defensively, special recognition went to defender Christopher Stang, who got an assist on a goal by singlehandedly bringing the ball close to the goal. Also, Isai Castro, Austin Damon, Davis Windes and Nick Iacobacci worked well to keep Oceanside from chances at goal. Goalie Tony Alba allowed no goals in the first half.

The last game of the season against the La Costa Matrix Nov. 21 was won 3-2. Offensively, forward mid Alex Medina scored two goals. Center mid Carter Braxtan made a what everyone agreed was a spectacular goal-kicking 40 yards to the goal, sending the ball over the goal keeper to score.

Forward Christopher Stang attempted two shots on goal. Omar Matinez, Dillon Alwan, Aedan Maruna, and Joshua MacDonald also kept the pressure for more goals on the Matrix team.

Defensively, great play was shown by Davis Windes, Nick Iacobacci, Eddie Aguilar, Austin Damon, Isai Castro, Ethan Hatch, Eddie Aguilar, and Carter Braxton that allowed the team to stay ahead, said the coaches.

Team coaches Joey Briese, E.J Maruna, and Russell Braxtan were pleased with level of play shown by all the boys during these last three league games.

“This has been a team effort,” said Briese. “All the boys have put into practice what they’ve been working on all year.”

With the regular season over, the team is looking to do well in the Presidio League tournament the first week in December.
