Female burglar gets eight years, eight months

A female burglar who pleaded guilty to breaking into a car outside a Ramona church has been sentenced to eight years and eight months in state prison for crimes that also included other cases.

Katherine Elizabeth Hildebrand, 22, received the term and a $1,400 fine from El Cajon Superior Court Judge Patricia Cookson last week. She pleaded guilty Aug. 29 to auto burglary stemming from a July 8 incident in which someone called sheriff’s deputies after seeing a woman breaking into a car at 11:30 a.m. outside Grace Community Church at 1234 Barger Place in Ramona.

Ramona deputies located Hildebrand driving southbound on state Route 67 at Dye Road and activated their emergency lights and siren, but she began speeding and passing other cars on the right side of the road.

Poway deputies took over the pursuit, but Hildebrand struck a white van on Poway Road. Both vehicles collided with a guardrail and her car  stopped after a small fire started in her car’s engine.

Hildebrand tried to flee, but was arrested.

The judge denied probation and gave her credit for spending the past four months in jail. She was also sentenced for another case filed in Vista Superior Court in which she was driving under the influence of methamphetamine.

Deputy District Attorney Martin Doyle said Hildebrand pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property that was found in her car after officers with the California Highway Patrol arrested her following a 100 mph chase on state Route 78.

The eight years and eight months sentence includes a vehicular burglary and stolen property case filed against her in Chula Vista Superior Court, said Doyle. A fourth case filed in San Diego Superior Court that involved auto burglary and petty thefts was dismissed.

Doyle said it was decided that the El Cajon judge sentence her on all cases, rather than transport her to Vista and Chula Vista Superior Court for separate sentencings.
