RHS is becoming a media darling

There was a time not too long ago when the only ink that the Ramona Bulldogs got was in the

still gives the Dawgs their due, but other media providers are now paying attention to RHS and its Bulldogs.

Ramona has had one road game televised on Cox Cable Four (at El Capitan) already this season. This week, the 2007 CIF and State Champion Oceanside will travel up the mountain to battle the Bulldogs. That game will be the first-ever televised sporting event from The Dawg Pound. It will also be the first televised sport aired from Ramona High School.

1. The Dawgs will get some giant submarine sandwiches and will be filmed eating them. The Dawgs will probably have an O-lineman inducted into Shak’s Pig Pen later this season. This Friday, Ramona will be featured. PPR will also be on hand for a “Wake up the Bulldogs” segment this week.

Coach Damon Baldwin was honored as the San Diego Charger’s High School Coach of the Week on PPR and earned a check for $1,500 for the Bulldog program.

Sentinel’s

own Suzanne Corey is the adviser for the RHSTV club that televises a program to the entire student body every week. RHSTV has state-of-the-art equipment, including a teleprompter. The student reporters report news, sports and information, conduct interviews and film students in all walks of RHS life. The entire student body looks forward to each weekly broadcast.

Ramona High’s Jennifer MacConaghy, an “RHS in the Press” student columnist for the Sentinel, was featured as PPR’s Student Reporter of the Week on a recent PPR. Jen did a great job. She is a member of the RHSTV crew.

Coach John Kentera has given the Dawgs great publicity on his Friday night program on radio 1090. Last week, he had a game reporter at the Westview game and did a separate segment on the Dawgs on the show.

The Westview game was also aired on the Internet. The coach has been very good to RHS for the 19 years that he has been doing his program.

The football team is not the only RHS program getting TV attention. The automotive students will be featured on the SPEED Channel’s Drag Race High. Cameras have been on campus since August. On Nov. 22, RHS’s dragster will race El Camino, and the results will be the subject of a nationally televised series in February.

The daily papers have been good to RHS this season. The

Union Tribune

has featured the Bulldogs in several articles.

The North County Times

has also covered the Dawgs. The NCT has always been very good to the Dawgs going back to the days when it was The Times Advocate. The UT also issues scholar/athlete certificates and RHS gets its share of certificates in all sports.

The program also features other co-curricular and extracurricular activities and has updates on stats for the season.

It is too bad that we no longer have a local radio station. KBNN-FM used to air football and basketball games. Ramona is not only in the news. It is making the news.
