Tennis scores number three seed

Share

Coach Doug Failla is pleased. His Ramona High School varsity tennis team was awarded the number three seed in the Division II CIF San Diego Section Playoff Pairings.

“I couldn’t be happier,” he said. “The hard work that our student/athletes have done all year is paying off. This is the highest seed that the tennis team has received since I have been the coach. ... Our strength of schedule was a big factor in the seed. The Valley League was very tough this year.”

The Lady Bulldogs played a monster schedule. Six teams on their schedule made it to the playoffs.

Five teams from the Valley League are in the playoffs. Westview is the number five seed in Division I. Mt. Carmel is the number one seed in Division II. Valley Center is the number seven seed in Division III, and San Marcos is the number three seed in division III.

Ramona also played Fallbrook, the number three seed in Division I, and Rancho Buena Vista, the number 10 seed in Division I.

The Lady Dawgs finished the regular season with an 8-7. They finished fourth in the Valley League with a 7-5 record.

Failla is optimistic about his team’s chances in the playoffs.

“We will play the winner of the El Capitan-Steele Canyon match and, if we win in the quarterfinals, we will probably face Valhalla in the semifinals,” he said. “I like our chances of getting to the finals.”
