All tricks, no treats for Attack Dawgs

It was all tricks and no treats for the Ramona Pop Warner Attack Dawgs on Saturday as they lost to the Temecula Attacking Kodiaks 26-6.

The Dawgs took the opening kickoff and began moving downfield. In a series of plays that ate 6 minutes off the clock, fullback Erik Schmidt and receiver Drew Robinson teamed up with quarterback Marco Cobian to march down to the Kodiak’s 20-yard line.

A turnover gave the ball to Temecula. Temecula’s running back took the ball and ran to Ramona’s 13-yard line. A tackle by Raul Briseno saved the touchdown.

Grady Vasquez sacked the quarterback on the next play and Sean Stemm stopped the running back, leaving Temecula with a third and long.

That’s when the tricks came out of the bag and Temecula, running a double reverse, scored the first touchdown of the game. The point after was good.

Ramona’s next possession ended in another turnover by the team. A tackle by Jeffrey Guthrie saved Temecula from scoring on the turnover, but a few plays later, the Kodiaks ran the ball into the end zone and the score stood at 13-0.

With time running out in the first half, Ramona quarterback Marco Cobian, behind a key block by Drew Robinson, ran the ball to the 15 yard line. With 15 yards to go and 25 seconds on the clock, Cobian threw the ball into the end zone and Temecula came up with the ball.

The half ended at 13-0.

The second half started with a bang as Temecula took the opening kickoff all the way down field for a touchdown to increase their lead to 19-0.

The Attack Dawgs weren’t giving up. On their next possession, running back Tyler Vargas took the kickoff down field to give Ramona a good starting position. The drive was continued on the next play with an 18-yard reception by wide receiver Ben Stein.

A few plays later, fullback Erik Schmidt took it into the end zone for the touchdown.

Temecula would score one more time in the game.
