Caltrans unveils speed signs along Route 67

Eleven electronic speed signs are the latest part of California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) “Take Care Getting There” public awareness campaign along state Routte 67 between Ramona and Poway.

The signs show motorists how fast their vehicles are going in comparison with the 55 mph speed limit.

“Speeding and not paying attention while driving have been identified as the key causes of collision on SR-67,” said Bill Valle, Caltrans’ district chief deputy director of maintenance and traffic operations.

The $2.6 million project includes the future widening of existing median rumble strips, which aid in preventing head-on collisions by providing a warning to drivers of vehicles that travel over the strips.

Other recent safety improvements include the widening of outside road shoulders to provide recovery room for near collisions.

The ongoing public awareness campaign to save lives and change driver behavior on the rural highway continues to make use of storefront posters, newspaper advertising and movie theater slides to hammer home the driver education message of “Take Care Getting There,” according to Caltrans.
