Boys basketball tourney ends on winning note for Ramona

Ramona High School’s varsity boys Bulldogs finished the Otay Ranch/Mater Dei Tournament on a winning note by beating Southwest High School of El Centro and Hilltop High School.

The Dawgs finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and are now 7-3 on the season.

The Ramona players got off to a fast start in their 66-59 victory over the Southwest Eagles as they took a 13-9 lead into the second period. Ramona led 32-25 at half and cruised to the win.

Dodge McIntosh led all scorers with 20 points, He also hauled in seven rebounds.

Andrew Alcaraz scored 12 points with seven rebounds. Cameron Kolk recorded a double-double as he scored 11 points and led all rebounders with 13 boards. Keith Scheib (4), Josh Leiber (8) and Kwade Miller (4) also scored in the game.

The Dawgs finished the tourney by beating the Hilltop Lancers 54-53.

Alcaraz and McIntosh shared the scoring honors for the Dawgs with 18 points apiece. Alcaraz hit three shots from three-point land and McIntosh added four shots from beyond the arch.

Kolk again controlled the boards with 10 rebounds, and he contributed 9 points to the cause. Scheib scored 3 points and had three assists. Leiber (5) and Bryson Garcia also scored in the victory.

Cameron Kolk averaged a double-double for the entire tournament. Kolk averaged over 10 points per game and had more than 10 rebounds per game. For his efforts he was named to the All Tournament team.

“Cameron had a great tournament,” said Coach Ken Scheib. “He played well at both ends of the court, especially in the rebounding department. I was also pleased with the play of Bryson Garcia and Josh Leiber. Both came off of the bench and gave our team a lift during the entire tournament. With Cameron rebounding well and scoring in the paint, it is difficult for teams to concentrate on Dodge and Andrew.”
