The Ramona Bulldog wrestling team started off the season with a 48-30 dual meet victory over Torrey Pines High School in the Dawg House.

The meet started with Max Hughes (125) winning by a forfeit. Sean Conroy (130) then lost by fall and the score was tied at 6.

Landon Jones got the Dawgs the lead by pinning Dyllon Max in 1:19. Marcos Herrera (140) lost a decision to Dylan Joyce. Brodie Chenowth came from behind to pin Tony Paladino in the 145-pound class and the Dawgs led 18-9.

Torrey Pines then went on a roll. Jared Widner (152), Connor Martin (160) and Pat Burns (171) all lost by fall and Brian Orr dropped a decision. The Dawgs trailed 18-30.

Brett Germain (215) pinned Robert Murray in 1:40 to stop the momentum of the Falcons. Dannery Apaez (275) recorded a pin over Harry Wilburn in 4:29 and the score was tied at 30.

Connor Koch (103) recorded a pin in 3:31 to give the Dawgs a lead that they would not relinquish. Eddie Delgado (112) won by forfeit.

Spaso Ilich (119) then thrilled the crowd with the quickest fall of the night when he pinned Donald Casey in 53 seconds.

“Torrey Pines is a much improved program and they are a Division I program so it was a big win,” Coach Steve Koch said. “Some of our wrestlers stepped up when we needed it,”

Junior Varsity

The junior varsity wrestling team beat Torrey Pines 42-39. The Flacons had to forfeit six bouts and that cost them the match.

Rio Rodrigues, Grant Faddis, Greg Peterson, Bryan Coane, Matt Cornecelli, Marshall Thrasher and Preston Johnson all received forfeit victories.

Elias Jauregui and Colton Houlihan won by fall in exhibition matches. Jaurequi recorded the fastest pin of the night at 25 seconds. Houlihan registered a 31-second pin.

Ten Bulldogs lost by fall in the match.
