Tennis honors go to players at end-of-season banquet

The varsity tennis team ended a very successful season with an awards banquet that showed it was composed of student athletes in every sense of the word.

The San Diego Union-Tribune recognized 11 Lady Bulldogs for their outstanding academic achievement with awards. Four earned grade point averages above a 4.0. Elizabeth Branco (4.83), Emily Sutch (4.50), Ashley Shields (4.33) and Andrea Briseno had an A average or better.

Katie Hoffman (3.14), Rachel Williams (3-0), Brittany Larzalere (3.83) Sami Marsch (3.29), Alexa Stykel (3.40), Jennica Castillo (3.71) and Jordan McWhorter (3.50) had B or better averages.

Elizabeth Branco was selected the Most Valuable Player for the 2008 varsity tennis team. Rebecca Romero was chosen the Most Improved Player.

Ashley Shields was honored as the Most Inspirational. Emily Sutch was awarded the Sportsmanship Award.

Rachel Vaca is the MVP on the junior varsity team. Taryn Canady is the Most Improved JV. Lauren Callan was the Most Inspirational JV, and Aida Smith won the Sportsmanship Award for the junior varsity.
