The center is open at 434 Aqua Lane weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. except for legal holidays.

Dinner-style meals are served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meals also are delivered to the homebound.

Suggested lunch donation for seniors age 60 and older and for homebound is $4. Transportation is $1. Lunch for a non-senior guest of a senior is $6.

Community comes out to support Rib Fest

Ramona Senior Activity and Nutrition Center netted about $6,500 in proceeds from the seventh annual Rib Fest held on its behalf, said Ray Cardona, center director.

“What a day,” said Cardona. “It was incredible and wonderful, the community coming together to help us. A heartfelt thanks to everyone.”

During the festivities, members of the Ramona Rotary Club donated $1,500 to the nutrition program.

At 91, still active in Kiwanis

Drina Hunt, who celebrated her 91st birthday on April 6, has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ramona for 11 years.

She was born in Hannah, N.D., in 1921. In 1907, her parents came to the United States from Scotland.

During World War II, she worked for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. In 1955, she married Chuck Hunt. They moved to Ramona in the late ‘90s.

Six Decades Later…Bridge Club Refuses to Throw in the Cards

Six decades ago, roughly a dozen women who grew up during the Great Depression and World War II decided to form a group in Ramona. The group started as a monthly bridge club but evolved to something more, something that spurred lifelong friendships and fond memories for generations to come.

There are now three surviving members of the group, which still meets today: Cynthia Kunkel, 97, and 94-year-olds Gertrude Page and Mary Kay Pinkard.

Friday, May 11: Bargain Corner from 8 a.m. to noon, Exercise at 9 a.m., Pinochle at 9 a.m., Birthday lunch at 11:30 a.m., Beauty & Whimsical Hat Contest during lunch, Pokeno at 1 p.m.

Monday, May 14: Exercise class at 9 a.m., Lace class at 9 a.m., Nutrition Advisory at 1 p.m.

Dancers from the Ramona/Julian Academy of Dance will entertain at the Ramona Senior Activity Center at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May. 8. All are welcome.
