Assisted living lodge strives to create homey environment

Off a dirt road, in the rural nooks and crannies of southwestern Ramona, is a new business striving to make elderly residents feel at home.

It’s called Ramona Senior Lodge and is a six-bed assisted living facility for the elderly. The lodge, which sits at 15855 Marmac Drive, is the brainchild of longtime San Diego resident Serena Nelson, now a Ramona resident.

Bargain Corner shoppers will find a variety of Christmas and other items for reasonable prices Thursday and Friday at Ramona Senior Center. This will be the last Bargain Corner of the year. The center at 434 Aqua Lane is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for legal holidays.

Tuesday, Dec. 10: Beef stew, homemade biscuits, ambrosia, salad and tomatoes.
Wednesday, Dec. 11: Parmesan chicken, noodles, California vegetables, fruited Jello.
Thursday, Dec. 12: Meatloaf and gravy, baked potato, spinach, peaches.
Friday, Dec. 13: Fish taco, refried beans, Mexican rice, fresh kiwi.
Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. Meals also are delivered to the homebound.
Suggested lunch donation for seniors age 60 and older and for the homebound is $4. Transportation is $1. Lunch for a non-senior guest of a senior is $6. For reservations and more information, call 760-789-0440.

Ramona Senior Center closes for Thanksgiving

Ramona Senior Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. The center at 434 Aqua Lane will reopen Monday, Dec. 2, at 8:30 a.m.

Ramona Senior Center faces $63,000 deficit

Unless something changes, Ramona Senior Center will shut its doors in four years — or sooner.

Operating approximately $63,000 in the red this year, the senior center is keeping its doors open with proceeds from the sale of a home — but that won’t last forever, says Pete Bakarich, president of the Pacific Educational Foundation Board that oversees operation of the center at 434 Aqua Lane.

Senior center needs volunteers

Ramona Senior Center at 434 Aqua Lane is looking for volunteers to help in the dining room and during other activities.

WWII vet to run up SR-67 and through Ramona for cross-country fundraiser

A 90-year-old World War II veteran will be running through Ramona this week in his coast to coast quest to raise money for a tank landing ship used in the D-Day invasion at Normandy.

Ernie Andrus of Prescott, Ariz., welcomes anyone who would like to join him on his jog or cheer him on.
