Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 36th Annual Barbecue Fundraiser, open to the public and featuring a host of family-friendly activities, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.
Included at the event will be a dunk tank, a pie booth where participants can “pie the chiefs,” firefighter competitions, a beer and wine garden, a camel from Oasis Camel Dairy, an auction and opportunity drawings.
The Barona Band of Mission Indians invites the public to experience Native American dancing, music and cuisine at the 43rd annual Barona Powwow Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
Held on the Barona Indian Reservation, the celebration will start Friday, Aug. 30, with gourd dancing at 6 p.m. and grand entry at 7 p.m. The Powwow will continue from 1 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Trevor Rogelstad, a 2009 Ramona High School graduate, plays Marius in the Star Repertory Theater production of “Les Miserables” at the Avo Playhouse in Vista.
Rogelstad’s performances in the Revolution Cast musical are at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31.

First Congregational Church will host its annual Corazon Auction and Dinner on Saturday, Aug. 17, to raise funds for a mission home-building project in Mexico. A revised tentative map with road modifications for the Montecito Ranch project will go before the county Planning Commission on Friday, Aug. 16.

Montecito Ranch, a 935.2-acre project for 417 single-family homes, an 8.3-acre active park, an 11.9-acre historic park and 571.2 acres of biological open space, is planned to be built one mile northwest of the Ramona Town Center, south of State Route 78 and west of Ash Street. The supervisors approved the original vesting tentative map Aug. 4, 2010.
