Milagro Farms Winery sponsors Olde Ramona Hotel Gallery artists’ reception

Milagro Farms Winery, winner of Best of San Diego County at the 2013 San Diego County Fair, will sponsor the reception at the Olde Ramona Hotel Gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The reception, open to the public, is an opportunity to talk with artist Dawn Rivas, whose works are featured in the gallery’s Discovery Room. Also featured this month and next are works by gallery artists with the theme “Feeling Feline.”

Music takes over for Nine Days and Nights

Although the Ramona Music Fest and the Ramona Bluegrass and Old West Fest are two entirely separate events, this year the two will be coming together in a unique way.

Event organizers decided that, since there are only nine days between the two music celebrations this year, all nine days should celebrate — what else but music?

Ramona Art Guild to sponsor silverpoint workshop

Ramona Art Guild will sponsor a silverpoint workshop with Vicki Walsh in the Ramona Library Community Room from 9:45 a.m. to 2 pm. on Saturday, March 23.

Walsh, a drawing professor at Palomar College, is renown for her immaculately rendered portraits. In her latest series, she uses silver and gold point to create detailed drawings upon which she applies layers of oil paint.

Art guild’s May activities include abstract artist, mosaic workshop

Ramona Art Guild members will present two $1,000 checks at its meeting on Wednesday, May 16: one to a local high school graduate and one to the Friends of Ramona Library for that organization’s support of the arts and the community.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Ramona Library Community Room, 1275 Main St., and will feature abstract artist Marsha Boston, whose works are influenced by her fascination with botany.

Friends of Library plans Authors’ Day

Plans are under way for Ramona’s inaugural “Authors’ Day at the Library” on April 21.

Friends of Ramona Library, the volunteer organization that supports library activities, will host the event. Area authors are invited to display, sign and sell their books, chat with the public, network with fellow authors and, if they wish, present short programs. Ramona author to present historic images for Valley Club

Ramona author and historian Richard L. Carrico will present slides and stories from his book “Images of America: Ramona, California” at the San Vicente Valley Club’s luncheon meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

The meeting is open to the public and will be in the San Vicente Valley Inn, 24157 San Vicente Road. Guests are encouraged to make reservations at the front desk of San Vicente

Gallery hosts artists’ reception

Artwork by Mike Diaz of Ramona will be showcased in the Olde Ramona Hotel Gallery during February and March.

“Mike Diaz’s animal paintings are so real, you can hear the lions roar and the chickens scratch,” said gallery artist and founder Loretta Alfonsi. “He brings the animals to life by starting with the eyes and concentrating on form. Mike also does landscapes.”

Bruno Leone concert benefits Woman’s Club scholarship fund

Noted pianist and recording artist Bruno Leone will present a concert featuring the songs and music of Cole Porter in Ramona on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Ramona Woman’s Club Scholarship Fund. The club each year awards scholarships to Ramona students starting their second year of college.
