By John Rajcic Next to the family, the school may be the most important organization in our community. The school impacts on the growth and development of the young. The teacher educates. This does not demean the role of the church or any other organization. Since the failure of our school bond measure, I have [...]

Weeks after Mitt Romney’s defeat there are those who persist in the delusion that business people make the best presidents. The facts of history have shown us otherwise.
Since Herbert Hoover 1928, the American people have voted out of office after a single term only three presidents: Hoover, Carter, and George H. Bush. All were successful businessmen.

Well, I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Bisbikis regarding his observation that “there are many misinformed, and many more living in some alternate reality.” My only suggestion is that he take a careful look in the mirror.
Our country faces many very serious challenges. And most agree that America would be more capable of dealing with these challenges given a vibrant economy. Who better to boost our languid recovery than a proven businessman who also has governed a state and shown obvious

Guess what you might find under your Christmas tree this year courtesy of the California Public Utilities Commission and San Diego Gas & Electric?
A decision, all wrapped up on Dec. 20 with a big red bow, which will allow SDG&E to charge you for uninsured costs of fires they start in the future. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving! Wrapped inside you also might find another huge gift — to allow SDG&E to charge you untold millions for its

In the wake of November’s election, public schools and the communities they serve came out winners. That is true, to some extent, in Ramona. Fortunately, the passage of Proposition 30 restores stable funding to schools for the next seven years. However, Proposition R, the local school bond, did not pass. Of the 15,279 votes cast, the required 55% fell short by a mere 671 “Yes” votes.

Reading the letter titled “Looking Beyond the Election” dated Nov 22 confirms for me that there are many misinformed, and many more living in some alternate reality. The writer was disappointed that we don’t have a president who is a proven business leader. Well, neither was F. Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and many others.

This is the mantra of the real estate community and it holds in this case also. It is not hard to find Ramonans in favor of solar energy but it is very easy to find them in strong opposition to the pending construction of a 7.5 megawatt, 42.7-acre solar energy system that is going to be plopped down in a rural, agricultural field near the intersections of Warnock and Ramona Street where every driver who uses this route to and from work will

At the November 2012 Ramona School Board meeting, several interesting things happened. I suggested that Mr. Graeff’s employment contract needed to be terminated because he is the captain, and that the RUSD ship had run aground and was taking water. Captains are always removed when things go badly, as are CEOs of failing corporations. However, after watching the board meeting, I fear that Mr. Graff may be with RUSD for some time.

An essential aspect of living in the backcountry is that it’s always been necessary and wise to be forward thinking and be prepared for any emergencies that might occur. This was brought to my attention by Bill O’Reilly, who reminded us in his recent editorial about the aftermath of the big East Coast hurricane, Sandy—”many of us have forgotten about nature as we have become addicted to machines.” Sandy took them away. Power gone, no Internet, no cell phones. ”Suddenly, it was 1850 with one exception—battery-operated flashlights and radios.”

Thanksgiving is much more than a big meal with family and friends. It’s a time to reflect on, and be thankful for, all of the good things you have.
Even with all of the uncertainty and turmoil in the world, you have so much to be thankful for. It’s important to be grateful, not just on Thanksgiving, but every day. Rather than lamenting what you feel is lacking in your life, begin each new day by developing an attitude of gratitude.
