Tour brings World War II planes to Ramona Airport

Residents will have a chance to see World War II aircraft up close at Ramona Airport April 23-25.

The Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour will display and give tours of a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” heavy bomber, a consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” heavy bomber, and a P-51 Mustang fighter from 2 to 5  p.m. on Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

The planes will be at Chuck Hall Aviation, 2898 Montecito Road.

Tours are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. WWII veterans may tour for free.

Flights on either the B-17 or B-24 are available by reservation. Also available are flights in the P-51 for a half hour and for an hour. For reservations, cost and more information, call 800-568-8924.

This is the 25th year for the nationwide Wings of Freedom Tour. The Collings Foundation is a nonprofit education foundation devoted to organizing living history events.

    Saw them flying around yesterday (who can miss something with a 110 foot wingspan flying low and slow). For those unavailable mid day / mid week they are in Carlsbad over the weekend.
