Golfers invited to tee off for wildlife

The public is invited to participate in the 2014 Wildlife Golf Tournament, hosted by The Fund for Animals Wildlife Center and San Vicente Golf Resort on Friday, March 21.

Proceeds from the tournament will help fund programs and services for regional wildlife. Fund for Animals, an affiliate of The Humane Society of the United States, primarily rescues and cares for native wildlife with the goal of returning them to the wild.

The tournament at San Vicente Golf Resort, 24157 San Vicente Road, will start with check-in at 11:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A cocktail reception will be held at 5 p.m. with dinner and awards starting at 6 p.m.

The tournament will feature auction items, activities throughout the course, prizes and refreshments. Prizes will be awarded to teams in first, 16th and last place.

A 2014 Mazda 3 from John Hine Mazda will go to the first person to get a hole-in-one on hole No. 8.

Among activities will be chipping golf balls into a “nest” between holes 11 and 12 to win an opportunity to release a raptor into the wild.

The tournament registration fee is $100 for San Vicente golf members and $125 for non-members. To attend the banquet is $25. Sponsorships are available.

To register for the golf tournament or for information about sponsorships, visit, or call 760-789-2324, ext. 302. Early registration is advised.
