Sheriff’s team searches for missing kayaker in Sutherland Reservoir area

A sheriff’s search and rescue team was combing the area around the Sutherland Reservoir near Ramona for a kayaker who went missing this afternoon, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

The man, in his 50s, was reported missing by an employee just after 1:30 p.m., according to sheriff’s Lt. Dave Schaller.

The employee told authorities the kayaker suffered from a heart condition, Schaller said.

The man’s kayak was found unmanned and overturned, he said.

Sutherland Reservoir is owned by the City of San Diego and east of Ramona off state Route 78 and Sutherland Dam Road.
