Carjacking in Ramona leads to arrest of San Diego man

Monday, Nov. 25—A 25-year-old man was jailed today on suspicion of carjacking in Ramona.

Ricardo Macedo-Frausto and an unknown companion in one vehicle followed the vehicle of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend from the San Pasqual Valley area into Ramona, eventually stopping in the 2400 block of Main Street early Sunday evening, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. John Boyce.

Once stopped, Macedo-Frausto allegedly confronted the victim about his relationship with Macedo-Frausto’s ex-girlfriend. Macedo-Frausto and his companion then attacked the victim, punching and kicking him in the face, causing minor facial injuries, Boyce said in a statement.

Macedo-Frausto then allegedly took off in the victim’s vehicle while the second suspect drove off in Macedo-Frausto’s vehicle. According to Boyce, earlier in the evening — shortly before the alleged attack occurred — the victim drove up to a San Diego police officer who was working a road closure on Highway 78 in San Pasqual Valley, telling the officer that someone was following him.

The officer spoke to Macedo-Frausto but determined there was no criminal violation and released him without further incident. Deputies investigating the carjacking contacted San Diego police and obtained Macedo-Frausto’s address.

“They drove to the residence and located Macedo-Frausto, who admitted he had ‘snapped’ because he was jealous the victim was dating his ex- girlfriend,” Boyce said. “(He also) admitted to assaulting the victim and stealing his car.’’

He refused to identify his companion.

Deputies booked Macedo-Frausto into San Diego Central Jail shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to jail records, which showed he could be arraigned at the El Cajon courthouse as early as Wednesday morning.
