“We made some modifications to our lineup and the strategy worked well.  Rebecca Vaca (6-4, 6-0 and 6-0) plays on our No. 1 doubles team but she was dominant as our No. 1 singles player as she won all three of her sets convincingly. Danielle Vizcarra (3-6, 6-2 and 6-0), usually plays on our No. 2 doubles team, was impressive in her singles debut as she won two sets. Hanna Kent (1-6, 2-6 and 6-2) added another set as our No. 3 singles player,” said Coach Matt McCormick.

“In doubles we put one-half of our No. 1 doubles team, Lauren Dunker, and one-half of our No. 2 doubles team, Cassidy Owens, to make a powerful No. 1 team that won all three sets (6-2, 6-1 and 6-0).Caroline Lopresti and Alyssa Virgilio had an impressive performance by winning all three of their sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-0 and won by default. Elizabeth Bowersox and Megan Douglass made their debut as a doubles team and went 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2,” he said.

Ramona lost a heart-breaker to Del Norte.

“Several of our girls have been fighting sickness so the fact that we almost beat a top-notch team like Del Norte was a credit to the competitive spirit of our team,” said McCormick.

Jessica Failla  picked up all of Ramona’s singles points by posting scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1.

McCormick had praise for the play of Kent and Douglass. “They played hard against very difficult competition,” he said.

Dunker and Vaca teamed up to win 3 team points with scores of 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0. Owens and Vizcarra posted scores of 6-7, 6-4 and 6-0.

“They almost pulled off the upset of the match against their No. 1 doubles team by going to OT in the tie breaker,” said the coach.
