Lakeside brush fire blackens 10 acres

Sunday, Oct. 6—Firefighters worked to extinguish a brush fire that blackened about 10 acres today near Lakeside, authorities said.

The fire was reported at about 10:15 a.m. as a 2-acre blaze in the 10400 block of Aquilla Drive near El Nopal, and had grown to 10 acres in about an hour, according to fire officials and the California Highway Patrol.

Lakeside Fire Protection District and Cal Fire personnel were making good progress on the fire, and had called in a strike team, fire officials said.

No structures were threatened, and no evacuations were ordered, fire officials said.
