San Vicente Resort to stage ‘Wizard of Oz’ chamber mixer

By Maureen Robertson

It’s the 75th  anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz” and Janice Baldridge, marketing coordinator for the San Diego Country Estates Association, is making the most of it. She’s substituted the well-known sentence from the 1939 film starring Judy Garland — “There’s no place like home” — with “There’s no place like San Vicente Resort,” location of the Ramona Chamber of Commerce mixer on Aug. 15.

The mixer will be at the resort at 24157 San Vicente Road from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for chamber members and $10 for others. All are welcome.

Baldridge will be wearing ruby red slippers, and Dorothy — with Toto — will be carrying her basket filled with a variety of giveaways and certificates. To receive one from Dorothy, just tell her “There’s no place like San Vicente Resort.”

Guests will receive a Yellow Brick Road card with a map and Yellow Brick Road laid out on the floor. Those have their card marked at each of the locations listed in the resort will have the card included in a drawing for a night’s stay for two at the resort that includes dinner for two, breakfast for two and golf for two with a golf cart.

Food stations will be named after Wizard of Oz characters such as the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man. Cheryl Wright with Transit Van Shuttle will sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and Faith Knott,  2013 Open Group Ramona Idol winner, will play the song on her ukulele.

“That’s not all,” said Baldridge, promising “other surprises.”

Chamber mixers, held monthly, are an opportunity to meet and network with businesspeople and those interested in the business community.
