β€œA 60-year-old man on a motorcycle lost control, hit the side of amountain and bounced off of it, then went across lanes of traffic ending up on the other side of the road in a field of cactus,” Delimitrol said. β€œHe died on the scene.”

A SigAlert was issued for a couple of hours following the fatal crash, closing State Route 78 between West Haverford Road in Ramona and Bandy Canyon Road.

If I manage to kill myself, or if someone else kills me on any one of the roads to Ramona, please drag my carcass to the side of the road and keep the traffic flowing.

Just for the record: I was watching the biker before the crash. His bike had an exceptionally wide rear tire. The biker had trouble negotiating the curve following the Animal Kingdom Park heading East. The next significant curve was about 2-3 miles further east. Another biker zoomed past us and the accident biker at that site. The accident biker appeared to speed up, the fat tire caught the side of the road. The accident biker slid off the road, still in control, but couldn't recover away from the cliff. The accident biker slammed into the cliff, about 40-50mph, causing an explosion of dirt and rock debris and ricocheting the bike and rider from the east bound side across the road to the drop off on the west bound side of Hwy78. The bike traveled to the bottom of the levee. The rider was captured by a cactus and was suspended about 2 feet off the ground completely encased by the cactus. When I got to the bike rider I detected no pulse or breathing. As stated, he died at the scene. The surreal part was that the bikers helmet had come off on impact with the cliff and landed on top of the cactus plant the driver was impaled in. The other biker? Never new what happened.
