Two accidents occur Wednesday night near Main and 14th Streets
Two unrelated accidents — one involving a skateboarder and the other involving two rear-end collisions — occurred within about a minute of each other near Main and 14th Streets on Wednesday night, reported California Highway Patrol.
At 7:52 p.m., a 13-year-old boy from Ramona was riding his skateboard north on the sidewalk of Main Street near Starbucks as the female driver of a pickup truck was ready to pull out of that store’s parking lot and turn right, said CHP Public Information Officer Kevin Pearlstein.
“He’s coming from her right, on the sidewalk,” Pearlstein explained.
The boy stopped and started walking with his skateboard, thought the driver saw him, and put his skateboard back down as she pulled out, the officer said, adding that the boy hit the right door of the truck and suffered minor abrasions. The driver of the truck was a 59-year-old female from San Diego, according to CHP, which is still investigating to determine fault.
Pearlstein noted that, while bicyclists should ride with traffic, skateboarders are recommended to ride facing or against traffic.
About a minute after that accident, a 68-year-old female from Ramona, driving a 2005 Honda, was southbound on Main Street, preparing to turn into the Big 5 parking lot, when she misjudged the driveway, hit the curb, and began to back up to go north on Main Street, CHP reported.
A Michigan woman, 57, in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu rental car, traveling northbound, saw the Honda and stopped, Pearlstein said, but was then rear-ended by a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old male from Ramona. His truck was subsequently rear-ended by a 1997 Ford Mustang, driven by 40-year-old Ramona woman, the officer continued. The latter two drivers were found at fault, he said.
