Out of the Box Players to present ‘The Haunting of Hill House’

Out of the Box Players’ production of “The Haunting of Hill House” will be staged Saturday, May 18.

Directed by Juliana Stewart, the Theatre of the Imagination drama features Jennie Bowman, Sharon Crosswhite, Clayton Gage, Kymm Hansen, Simon Hansen, Chuck Preble and Christine Vail.

With a sinister and forbidding reputation, Hill House has remained empty for years. Its isolation is broken by the arrival of Dr. Montague, an investigator of the paranormal, whose mission is to delve into the history of the house and to come to grips with the forces that make it uninhabitable.

Montague is joined by others, all strangers to one another, but brought together for varying reasons. They all struggle with their mounting fears as the audience deciphers what is lurking in Hill House and the psyches of the individuals involved.

The show, an expanded Reader’s Theatre presentation — sometimes called Theatre of the Imagination,  is adapted for the stage by F. Andrew Leslie from the novel by Shirley Jackson.

Due to paranormal situations, the production may not be suitable for young children.  Admission is $5. The show will be at Bonham Bros & Stewart, 321 12th St. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the production will begin at 7:30 p.m.
