Birth Name: Humphrey DeForest Bogart Ht. 5’ 9’’ Died: 14 January, 1957

Humphrey Bogart was enrolled at Phillips Academy in preparation to study medicine at Yale, but his plans were altered, and he joined the U.S. Navy. Soon ‘Bogie’ got the acting bug and was seen as a mediocre stage actor until he got his huge break in the play and movie, The Petrified Forest (1936) as the villainous Duke Mantee opposite Bette Davis and Leslie Howard. Warner Brothers signed Bogart for 28 more films, including the classics: High Sierra, The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, and Key Largo. Bogart met his fourth wife, Lauren Bacall, while filming To Have and Have Not (1944). They married in 1945 despite a 25 year age difference. In his final years, he still created memorable roles in The African Queen (1951) and The Caine Mutiny (1954). He received two Oscar nominations and one win for his lead role in The African Queen. Bogart was a founding member of the infamous Rat Pack. It included stars like Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Angie Dickinson. Humphrey Bogart died of esophageal cancer in 1957. He is survived by his wife and two children.
