Body found near wrecked vehicle in gorge in Ranchita

Thursday, March 28—Officials have not yet released the identity of a person whose body was found near a wrecked vehicle in a gorge alongside a road in the Ranchita area yesterday.

A passerby spotted the body at Montezuma Valley and San Felipe roads shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Emergency personnel had to rappel about 100 feet down a steep slope to get to the site of the apparent solo traffic accident, the CHP reported.

The crash appeared to have occurred hours earlier, possibly at some point Tuesday night, officials said.
