At 35 years old, I have woken up and walked through the doors of Ramona Fitness Center for 24 years. Yikes! That’s a long time to be doing the same thing, in the same building, in the same town.
You may be in the same shoes as me. We get up, shower, get ready, make the commute, and walk in the doors of our places of business, jobs, or schools and colleges.
It’s a grind, let’s face it. Day after day, week after monotonous week, year after faster passing year. I’m not going to lie. It’s tough to stay motivated and keep that once youthful passion at 100%.
My goal this week is to give you a few keys to keeping your chin up, your path directed, and your passion progressive. Are you in? I’m in, because in reality, I’m really preaching to myself! I experience burnout and need to re-kindle that fire that drove me to risk it all and chase my dream. Let’s get this started.
My Three Keys to Staying Motivated in Your Daily Living:
Enjoy some quiet time
It’s critical to sit back and digest the day, reflect on family and life and give thanks for your blessings. A time of prayer, meditation, and contemplation doesn’t have to be first thing in the morning. It can be anytime of day, during your commute, on a hike, or my favorite, in the shower while my iPhone plays worship music. The key is to do it and do it when it works best for you and when you’re alone.
Re-educate and set and review goals often
This is key for me. Being a business owner and personal trainer, it is critical that I stay up on current trends and information. One way to do this is to attend trade shows, subscribe to magazines in your area of work, and go to workshops.
You work for some big corporation. You’re just an employee. Well if that is your thinking, that will be your reality. Start thinking like the CEO, start reading like the president of the company. Read books, seek out mentorship, and start setting goals to succeed. Look at those goals at one month, six months, and a year, and see where you go in your company, in your business, and in life.
Enjoy the small things in life
It could be the sound of the ocean, the coolness of a autumn breeze against your face. Maybe it’s the smell of freshly cut grass or freshly brewed coffee.
Enjoy the simple small things in life. Stop for a moment and watch your kids, or without being weird, watch kids at a playground in play. They are in the moment, in the now, and all that matters is what’s in front of them at that moment.
They are full-filled and content. They are not worried about their homework or chores. Most of what we as adults worry about won’t ever happen anyway, so take a lesson from the youth and enjoy the small things in life. These on face value, insignificant things keep us going and give us joy. In your job and in your life, appreciate these invaluable nuggets of nirvana!
