Ramona High’s tennis team serves up wins against Carlsbad, RBV

The Ramona Bulldog tennis team enjoyed a very successful week as it beat Carlsbad and Rancho Buena Vista on its home courts at Riviera Oaks Resort and Racquet Club.
The Dawgs opened the week by beating Carlsbad 13-5. The Bulldog singles players took seven of 10 team points. No. 1 singles player Daniel Streeter led the Bulldogs by going 6-1, 6-2, and finished the match with a 6-0 set.
No. 2 two singles player Christian Failla also won 3 team points with sets of 6-3, 6-1, and 6-2. Garrett Wilcox went 3-6, 2-6 and 6-1.
“In the first round of play we won five of the six sets against Carlsbad, and we won six of six against RBV. It is important to get off to a good start,” said coach Doug Failla.
The doubles teams won six of the nine sets against Carlsbad. The No. 1 team, Ricky Flores and Nick Peterson, won all three sets with scores of 6-3, 6-2, and 6-2. Jack Mellecker and Adam Mazzola won 2 team points by going 6-2, 5-7, and 6-0. Chad Martin and Shay Alwan went 2-6, 2-6 and 6-3.
Failla juggled the doubles line-up against Rancho Buena Vista and the doubles duos responded by taking six of nine sets.
Nick Peterson and Chad Martin teamed up in the No. 1 spot and won three sets with scores of 6-4, 6-1, and 6-1. The No. 2 team remained intact and won two sets as Mellecker and Mazzola went 6-7, 6-2 and 6-3.
The singles players won all nine sets and served six bagels in the process. Streeter had a three bagel day as he cooked up scores of 6-0, 6-0, and 6-0. Failla served two bagels with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0. Wilcox also had a zero on his scorecard as he went 6-4, 6-1, and 6-0.
After the match the team that served up the bagels was treated to cupcakes by Bulldog girls tennis player Lauren Dunker.
