Ramona district selects Sonny Adams Classified Employee of the Year
Ramona Unified School District has selected Sonny Adams as its 2013 Classified Employee of the Year.
Adams has served the district as a vehicle and equipment mechanic in the Transportation Department since 2004, and is responsible for maintaining the district’s many school buses and vehicles, according to
Superintendent Robert Graeff.
“Sonny’s knowledge of RUSD white fleet and service to the school district fleet is impressive,” said Lynette Beard, supervisor of the Transportation Department in her recommendation letter.
Adams recently completed a course to become a certified California school bus driver, so he can fill in when regular drivers are out.
“Sonny is always willing to lend a hand if needed in all aspects of the department,” said Lynnda Conklin, lead bus driver/router, in her letter recommending Adams for the award.
“Like the vast majority of our local CSEA (California School Employees Association) employees, Sonny recognizes his role as a genuine support to the educational mission of the district, and works very had to play his part to the utmost of his ability,” said Graeff. “This recognition is merely one testament to his devotion and a reminder of the key role that every classified employee is asked to play in helping to educate our local schoolchildren.”
Adams serves as the CSEA site representative for the district’s Transportation Department and is on the CSEA Union negotiation team.
“He keeps the classified employees here well informed by attending all CSEA meetings and also attends the monthly school board meetings,” said Beard.
In addition to his school district roles, Adams has been involved with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraiser, putting countless hours into promoting, recruiting walkers and sponsors, and spending more than 24 hours of his weekend on the event, noted Diana Abarca, the dispatcher/bus driver for the Transportation Department.
“Sonny can be viewed as a great role model for all district employees as he is committed to his job and has great work ethics. He is friendly, caring and easy going to all,” said Conklin.
