Chersten’s Critters for Kids Stuffed Animal Drive gains momentum

Chersten’s Critters for Kids Stuffed Animal Drive is gaining momentum.

Teen Miss Ramona Chersten Sandvik, who is conducting the drive, has been contacted by people throughout the community who are ready to add stuffed animals to the collection.

Teen Miss Ramona Chersten Sandvik stands outside Old Barn Door Antiques in the Business Barn, one of the collection sites for her Kids Stuffed Animal Drive.

“I am so grateful to the local businesses that are supporting this drive, and I want to thank each of them for their support of this effort,” she said.

Chersten started the drive after she received a stuffed animal before her second surgery in Rady Children’s Hospital last spring. Since she hadn’t received one before her first surgery in the fall of 2011, she asked why and learned that the hospital receives many donated stuffed animals during the Christmas season, but by mid-year they’re sometimes gone.

There are six donation sites in Ramona. The businesses are located throughout town and Chersten encourages everyone in Ramona to pick up a new stuffed animal while you are out shopping for Easter and drop it by one of these businesses::

In addition to the businesses serving as donation sites, Ramona Children’s Montessori, Montessori Children’s House, and Mountain View Community Church’s Vacation Bible School will have drives at their locations.

“I am so happy that the community is so willing to help in my efforts to collect stuffed animals,” said Chersten. “I hope we can really make a difference for Rady Children’s Hospital.”

Stuffed animals may also be brought to the Miss and Teen Miss Ramona Pageant scheduled for April 6. Each person who brings a stuffed animal will receive a small gift from Chersten.

“If you or your organization would like to join in, we still have plenty of time,” said Chersten’s mother, Heidi. “We would love to work with you for just the right level of participation for you, whether that is a drive in your organization or a check in lieu of purchasing stuffed animals.”
