Coach Jerry Patenaude’s varsity golfers picked up two more victories in non-league matches as they beat Steele Canyon High School and Olympian High School to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Ryan Graf led the Bulldogs in their 206-216 win over Steele Canyon. Graf fired a 38 to beat Kazar Matoian by one stroke. Mike Smith and Dane Harvey both carded 42. Thomas Andrews shot 45 and Jason Morton carded a 45.

“Dane’s 42 is the lowest varsity debut score I can remember since I took over as coach six seasons ago. It was a great way to the start of a varsity career,” said Patenaude.

Harvey had a good news-bad news hole on the second hole. The bad news is that he hit his tee shot on the par three in the rough about 40 yards short of the hole. His lie was behind a sand trap and he couldn’t see the hole from his lie. The good news is that he hit a wedge shot that cleared the bunker and rolled straight into the hole for a birdie.

The Dawgs traveled to Salt Creek Golf Club to take on Olympian High School. Graf repeated his 38 to lead the Dawgs to a 216-226 victory. Matoian carded a 41. Drew Andrews shot 43. Ben Anderson-Parks turned in a 46, and Frankie Romero shot 47. Tanner Angel shot 48.

“We are off to a great start. I have already seen improvement in a lot of the guys. Dane Harvey shot one of the best rounds by anyone in his first match and Ryan (Graf) has been very consistent in his play. Shooting two 38s, one at home and one on the road, and earning medalist honors in both matches, was very impressive,” said Patenaude.
