Celebrating Dr. Seuss
The Soroptimists and the Iota Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma teachers society recognized the birthday of Dr. Seuss in two separate celebrations.
Soroptimists’ Dr. Seuss Breakfast for Dinner garners $1,800 for scholarships and awards
Green eggs and ham were a favorite in Ramona Cafe, where Soroptimists International of Ramona staged a Dr. Seuss celebration to raise money for scholarships and awards.
It was a standing-room-only crowd as Soroptimist and Ramona Cafe owner Sonja Steiner and her staff, assisted by Soroptimist waitresses, prepared and served 400 meals to Dr. Seuss lovers of all ages.

Steiner donated 30 percent of the cafe’s proceeds from Breakfast for Dinner event. That plus the Soroptimists’ tips and money from the 50/50 opportunity drawing totaled about $1,800. The money will benefit women and girls of Ramona through the Soroptimists’ awards and scholarship program.
Community packs library for Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration
Young children and their parents filled the Ramona Library Community Room, Friday, during the Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration, sponsored by the Iota Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma teachers society in partnership with the library.
This was the fourth year for the event that is part of the Read Across America program, a National Education Association project.
On the committee that organized the event were Donna Braye-Romero, Sherry Torpin, Laura Rosenbusch, and Susan Beffa.

Stephanie Hurst, president of Iota Rho, estimated more than 300 at the event, exceeding last year’s total. The birthday celebration with six craft tables was held in the library’s Community Room for the first time, while the reading portion of the event remained in the children’s section.
Also a first were two Dr. Seuss birthday cakes, provided by Friends of Ramona Library.
Drawings were held during the celebration with children winning Dr. Seuss books donated by teachers.
