Ramona High School’s girls basketball team bounced back from an opening game loss in the Kiwanis Tournament to beat Morse 40-36 and ended the tournament with two wins and two losses.

The Lady Bulldogs go into 2013 with a 10-6 record.

Three Bulldogs scored in double figures to pace the Ramona offense against Morse. Kailey Hill put together a complete game at both ends of the court. Hill scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, blocked a shot, stole the ball three times and dished off one assist. Niki Spring scored 13 points with two 3-pointers, had three rebounds with a steal and an assist. Katherine Mauldin scored 10 points, led the team with seven rebounds and had two steals on defense. Kylee Scheib was the only other Lady Dawg to score. She had 3 points with five rebounds, a steal and two assists.

The girls had their worst offensive showing of the year in a 48-28 loss to Southwest High School. They only scored 5 points in the first half and were shut out in the second quarter.

Trailing 29-5 at intermission, the Lady Dawgs came out firing and outscored Southwest 14-10 in the third period but it was too little too late.

“Hannah Farhat was one of the few bright spots in the game. She has a great future as a knock-down shooter and a tenacious defender,” said coach Dan Marshall.

Farhat led Ramona with 9 points. Mauldin had 6 points, Spring scored 5, and Fields scored 4 points. Christina Barrameda and Ashlyn Savage scored 2 points apiece. Mauldin led the team in rebounding with 11.

In the final game of the tournament, the girls from the Valley of the Sun bounced back again to beat Lincoln 62-21 in a game that ended with a running clock.

Everybody on the Bulldog roster scored in the game. Mauldin led all scorers with 14 points and led all rebounders with nine boards. Farhat again scored in double figures with 10 points.

Marshall had praise for his junior captain Christina Barrameda.

“Christina had a solid all around game. She had 7 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Christina set the tone for the team in the win,” he said.

Julie Ward (9), Spring (6), Fields (5), Scheib (4), Savage (5) and Mackenzie Griffin (2) all scored in the win.
