I hope this makes sense to you, because I can't make heads nor tails of it. I support cuts to anything that includes waste. And you're old tired attempt at the anti war diatribe...give it a rest. Do you drive a car? ride a bus? what do you heat your home with? If the war is in the middle east, it rests with all of us. You're not pure.

Did Jesus feed the five thousand, or didn't he because that might create dependency? All of you Republicans who argue for cuts but refuse to touch the bloated defense budget with a ten foot pole don't have a leg to stand on. Patriots in name only, sending young men to fight in rich men's wars.

Interesting forum by the way ... And a great Nation indeed that you guys have put together over the years despite your differences.
I agree with Um Wrong about "You don't spend money you don't have" ... but then we should stop buying things using credit cards, i.e., with money that we don't have. Also, some of us should not buy houses that they cannot afford, hence we need to educate them at avoiding banks' toxic mortgages, that are still being offered despite the last housing crash.
I agree also with Um Wrong about "teaching others to fish" rather than handing them over the fish that we caught.
By the way, all of this is were schools (among others like family and church) sometime come in handy ... educating and teaching responsibility.
Now, what about ObamaCare? Well, without going to the extreme of a "Universal Health Care for All" that would be abused as it happens in other countries, I believe that healthcare should be regulated to avoid our premiums go through the roof as soon as we sneeze.
I'd love to make the "American Dream" a reality, finding the right balance between spending and taxes that will put our economy back on tracks, while still helping those who are unable to learn to fish for whatever reason.
Can we work together and build a reality where we all have a chance to survive long enough to enjoy life, or even better, thrive?
20% "fear", 80% "respect": that seems a reasonable split to me, and I don't care which political party drives it as long as it gives good results.
Oh boy, now I should define "good results" ... (sigh) ... it never ends, huh?

Well my friend, you have four more years to live in your alternate reality. Best practices in the business world suggest you don't spend money you don't have. You don't spend one time money on on-going programs. It's not just the President that must live by this, it is Congress as well. Obama care will increase the size of your government. It is already. Congrats. You missed a lot in bible studies Steve. Jesus would have suggested we teach those without "to fish." Not to hand over the fish we caught. His lesson was quite the opposite.

very well written.... wonderful "fluff"... Hope you're happy with your compassionate president who appologizes to other countries. Just curious, what reality are you living in?

I could not agree more with Steve Bisbikis.
While I respect all points of views, I still have a hard time understanding how come so many people could still vote for the Republican candidate in 2012, after the devastation left behind by the 2000 and 2004 Bush administration. Two wars, the rest of us now left to pick up the tab and pay billions and billions of dollars poured into it, and for what result, not to mention thousands of families shattered by the loss of a father and husband while in service, and the housing market disaster that we know.
Imagine these billions of dollars invested instead in schools and renewable energy: today our kids would have better chances in life, and we would be much closer to have a choice at the pump: either oil derived products, or something else when gas prices soar like they did not so long ago. But, no, still today and thanks to the Bush Administration, when gas prices are too high for many of us, do we have another choice than pay whatever oil companies are asking for? No, because these guys put us all on shackles on our way to the gas pump.
Obama's speech, on the night of the election results, was the most inspiring one that I heard in years, and today, I'm proud again to be an American: "I believe we can keep the promise of our founders, the idea that if you're willing to work hard, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or who you love. It doesn't matter whether you're black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you're willing to try."
Unfortunately, I fear that the 2016 election is likely to bring back the Republican party in business, and with it their time machine throwing us all back into medieval times and dark ages, spreading fear instead of hope and respect.
Do you know the difference between "fear" and "respect"? Well, just wait till you get in trouble and vulnerable: people who fear you will finish you up, while people who respect you will help you get back on your feet.
