Firefighters make quick work of brush fire near freeway

A small brush fire near Interstate 8 and West Main Street in El Cajon was put out quickly by firefighters Sunday, Heartland Fire Dispatch said.

The freeway-side blaze was spotted at 10:41 a.m. and was extinguished about 30 minutes later, a dispatcher said.

Several lanes on the westbound freeway were closed as fire crews fought the blaze, the CHP said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
