Food & Clothes Closet kicks off Share-Your-Holidays Program

Donations of nonperishable food and new unwrapped toys accepted

About this time each year, Ramona Food & Clothes Closet embarks on its Share-Your-Holidays Program, a community effort that helps those in need enjoy the spirit of the holiday season with a toy distribution for children and food boxes for low-income and needy households.

The program is for the benefit of children ages 1 through 12 of low-income families. Each qualified child receives a new unwrapped toy from Santa Claus and a small toy for his or her stocking.

In addition, clients currently enrolled in the emergency program are eligible to receive a large box of non-perishable food items and a Stater Brothers’ gift card during the month of December.

To qualify for the toy distribution, an adult family member must present a current picture identification card, documentation of all household income, and proof of residency in Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel, Ranchita, Warner Springs or Borrego Springs. Income includes employment, Social Security, disability, AFDC, food allowance, unemployment compensation, and child support. Once all criteria are met, an invitation to the event will be issued.

Applications for the program will be taken from Monday, Dec, 3, until Friday Dec. 7, from noon until 4 p.m. at the Ramona Food & Closet Service Office at 773 Main St.

The Share-Your-Holidays Program toy distribution will be held the week of December 17–21, from noon to 4 p.m. at Ramona Food & Clothes Closet Thrift Store. Parents are asked not to bring children to pick up the toys.

Ramona Food & Clothes Closet is accepting donations of non-perishable food items and new unwrapped toys in support of its holiday program. Donations from the public are accepted Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the thrift shop drive-through donation area.

Monetary donations are greatly appreciated, said DeeAnn Anderson, Food & Clothes Closet service manager. All donations are tax-deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Ramona Food & Clothes Closet’s mission is to assist low-income and needy families in the community with emergency food, clothing, medical supplies and referral services. It provides assistance year-round to those in need, with the Share-Your-Holidays Program providing even more outreach to realize its mission.
