‘Golfing for a Cure’ nets $4,500 to fight cancer
“Golfing for a Cure,” Ramona Relay for Life’s golf tournament at the San Vicente Golf Resort on Aug. 3, raised approximately $4,500 and registered about 60 golfers to participate in a round of 18-hole golf for the day, reports Ron Gomez, American Cancer Society Relay for Life manager.
Prizes went to the top performing golfers in addition to the lowest performing golfers.
Gomez thanked tournament sponsors and other supporters: San Vicente Golf Resort/Pro Shop, John Hine Mazda, The Starmack Group, KTM of North America/Temecula, Dixon Golf, The Carpet Lady, Rabobank, Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant, EliveLife Spa and Massage, Costco, Barona Casino, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Sears/Ramona, Borrego Springs Water, Lightning Brewery, Culligan Water, F. Acaina, The Fieger Family, T. Garafolo, D.D.S., Friends and Family of D’Ann Swartzlander, and the Friends and Family of Suzanne Horner. Committee members for the golf tournament were Juli Elliott, Lisa Miller, Lyn Hardy, Pamela Starmack and Dianne Fieger, and San Vicente Golf Resort staff helped coordinate the first of what organizers hope will be an annual event.
Gomez also thanked Doreen Benedict and several other Ramona Relay volunteers and their family members for their time and support.
The American Cancer Society 2012 Relay For Life of Ramona has raised approximately $51,000 in its fight against cancer, reported Gomez.
“The 2012 Ramona Relay season recognizes and honors 31 community fundraising teams, 61 cancer survivors/caregivers and over 400 registered event participants,” he noted.
The 2013 Ramona Relay season will begin planning efforts in September 2012. All are invited to the Committee Interest Party on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. in D’Carlos at 14th and Main streets. Refreshments will be served, questions about the 2013 Ramona Relay For Life will be answered, and planning committee assignments will be confirmed.
