The beginning classes were held at 8:30 a.m. and used SNAG equipment to introduce the sport to novices. SNAG (Starting New At Golf) equipment is made of plastic and the balls are similar to golf balls. They are designed for safety and are easy to use help beginners learn skills and techniques. The first day the campers concentrated on putting. Day two was dedicated to chipping at the practice area. On day three participants learned a full swing at the practice area.

Intermediate classes were from 10 to 11 a.m. The campers provided their own clubs. On day one putting was emphasized on the practice putting green. On day two the campers worked on pitching and chipping at the practice area. On day three they worked on their full swing at the driving range.

Assistant Golf Pro Johnny Lafata and Aaron Guevarra provided the instruction for the SNAG and intermediate campers. The two mixed instruction and motivational games and contests, keeping the interest of the campers.

Arcaina was also on hand to help with instruction and motivation. The campers had a ball (pun intended).

The advanced campers started each day with instruction and drills and then went on the course to put their skills to use under the supervision of the camp staff.

One more camp is planned for Aug. 7, 8 and 9. Call San Vicente Resort, 760-789-3477, for reservations. Classes are limited to 12 per group.

A tournament is planned for the campers from both sessions. The date is still to be determined.
