Tap the horns next time

I went to our local parade Saturday, May 19, with my wife and grandson. It was pretty much what I expected for a small town parade. I had no illusions that it would be rivaling the Tournament Of Roses.

But what my wife and I found EXTREMELY annoying were a number of the big rigs that insisted on making the parade less than appealing and in several cases downright painful. Specifically the big rigs with the train-style horns. Sadly, CHP informs me that they are legal. Which is fine — except that the majority of the drivers were laying on them.

When I see kids covering their ears in pain, and it also hurts my ears — there is a problem.

Hopefully, in the future the drivers will limit themselves to tapping the horns instead of laying on them. But because of the rudeness of these drivers, even though it would hurt the town, I personally wouldn’t care if the rodeo EVER returns to our town.

Profound thanks for VFW support

The VFW Post and its ladies and men’s auxiliaries send their profound thanks of Ramona and Country Estates for their fabulous support of our Memorial Day Buddy Poppy Campaign.

You stepped up to the plate and donated $8,546 to our programs for the relief of financial problems incurred by the military personnel that have sacrificed so much in deployments and injuries on behalf of this great country. All the requests submitted to us are duly checked to be authentic and factual. We have been instumental in reducting some requests for car repairs for deployed veterans during an emergency. We would also extend thanks to the NJROTC program at Ramona High School. Those cadets arrive as if they are going to a dress impection. They have been courteous to shoppers and deserve a thank you from the public — a fantastic job, NJROTC Ramona.

Once again, thanks. May you have a sensational summer. We will see you again early in November for Veterans Day.
