Students at James Dukes Elementary School are busy rehearsing for their spring musical, Kathryn Schulz Miller’s “The Little Mermaid.”

The musical features a cast of 44 students and presents Hans Christian Anderson’s fable in an amusing way that involved the audience. Annabelle, the mermaid princess, has met Prince Edward and asks Odessa, the human queen, to make her human —much to the chagrin of her father, King Neptune.

Directed by music teacher Donna Ransdell, the production will be staged at the Charles R. Nunn Performing Arts Center at Olive Peirce Middle School 1521 Hanson Lane at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.
