Golf’s Rajcic takes fifth at CIF, advances to regionals
By Bill Tamburrino
The Ramona High School golf team did not make it to day two of the CIF San Diego Section Championships at the Escondido Country Club as their Palomar League foes ran away with day one of the competition, but Christian Rajcic did well as an individual, advancing to day two and to regionals.
Ramona’s golfers carded a 395 as Rajcic shot an even par 70, Ryan Graf shot 79, and Ben Anderson-Parks, Joe Fortunato and Brandon Zane all shot 82. Other golfers shot some very low scores on the par 70 course.
Torrey Pines, whose only loss of the season was to Ramona, led after day one with a 351. Rancho Bernardo shot 372 for second and Poway shot 377 as the Palomar League had the top three teams. Torrey went on to win the championship.
On day two Rajcic carded a one under par 69 to take fifth in the CIF and as a result he will advance to the Southern California Regionals at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena on May 31.
“Christian was in some pretty elite company,” said Coach Jerry Patenaude. “He was only one of five golfers in the San Diego section who shot under par. The winner (Ryan Burgess of Torrey Pines) only beat him by five strokes.”
The top two teams and the top 10 individuals will advance to the state championships.
