SOHO holds open house Sunday at Santa Ysabel General Store

The public is invited to an open house at the Santa Ysabel General Store and Backcountry Visitor Center on Sunday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Save Our Heritage Organization (SOHO) purchased the historic store at 30275 Highway 78 in December.

SOHO is partnering with Wildlife Research Institute (WRI) of Ramona and other land conservancy organizations to operate the store and visitor center. Other organizations involved are Volcan Mountain Foundation, San Diego River Park Foundation, San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, and San Dieguito River Park.

Santa Ysabel General Store, an 1884 adobe and wood frame commercial building, is a backcountry historic landmarks. SOHO purchased it from the Tulloch family, one of San Diego’s pioneer cattle ranching families.

The store will be open to the public as a Nature Interpretive Center, Mercantile and Visitor Center, and will offer information on surrounding trails, recreation opportunities, and cultural heritage sites of the backcountry. SOHO plans to hold a grand opening in the fall.
