Ramona High School runners Tristan Stidham and Forrest Riley were among winners at the Escondido Invitational meet.

The Bulldogs took the first two finishing positions in the open 1,600-meter race on April 27. Stidham set a personal record of 4:31.42 while Graham Gantzer ran the metric mile in 4:35.82.

“He’s really coming on this year,” Coach Sherri Edwards said of Stidham. “He’s really working hard and really bringing his times down.”

Riley’s time of 9:35.58 in the open 3,200-meter race wasn’t a personal record, but there was no significant competition to push him.

“He was kind of all by himself the whole race. He had a pretty easy win,” Edwards said.

The fourth-place finisher in that race was Ramona’s Cory Thomas, who took 9:46.91. Preston Johnson had a shot put throw of 46 feet 5 inches to take fourth at the Escondido Invitational while Alec Richardson’s 800-meter time of 2:00.14 set a personal record and gave him fifth place.

At Ramona’s April 18 Palomar League dual meet at Mount Carmel High School, senior Ian Pedlow earned his first varsity win with a time of 11:18.78 in the 3,200-meter race while Riley’s time of 4:38.67 won the 1,600-meter event.

The Bulldogs won two other events in the 97-40 loss to the Sundevils. Connor Guasti cleared 5 feet 8 inches in the high jump and Johnson threw the shot put 44 feet 6 inches. Guasti also had a second-place triple jump distance of 19 feet 9 inches while Johnson’s discus throw of 118 feet 9 inches was worth third place.

Javier Dominguez finished second in the 200-meter dash at 23.45 seconds and third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.46 seconds. Dustin Hager’s personal record of 17.83 seconds gave him second in the 110-meter hurdles race while his 300-meter hurdles time of 45.21 seconds placed third.

Although Mount Carmel earned the first-place pole vault points, Devin Rhodes cleared 11 feet for second place and Chase Simmons took third with a distance of 10 feet.

The younger Bulldogs competed at the Dick Wilkins Frosh-Soph Invitational meet April 28 at El Capitan High School. The sophomore boys 4×400 relay team of Nathan Cherek, Kevin Carmona, Mackenzie Cahill, and Austin Minocci took second with a time of 3:42.26. Ramona’s freshman boys 4×100 team of Wyatt Scott, Christian Dominguez, Brandon Gansch, and Colton Jansen placed third in the open 4×100 relay after completing the race in 47.11 seconds.

Scott was second in the freshman invitational 110-meter hurdles after a time of 17.35 seconds. Max Edwards ran the freshman invitational 800-meter race in 2:09.45 to earn third place. Cahill’s time in the sophomore 300-meter hurdles was 45.64 seconds, which gave him third place.

League preliminaries will take place May 8 at Poway High School. League finals on May 11 will also be at Poway.
