Wine and beer bar opens in Ramona Business Barn
By Karen Brainard
Southern California Wine Co., a family-owned business, celebrated the grand opening of its wine and beer bar in the Ramona Business Barn last weekend.
Nathan Marsh, his wife, Sandy, and son, Garrett, own and operate the Southern California Wine Co., specializing in local wines and beers.
“Most of our wines are from Ramona,” said Nathan Marsh.
Many of his beers are from breweries in the San Diego area, described by Marsh as “top-notch.” His list includes beers from Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido, Lightning Brewery in Poway, and Iron Fist Brewing Co. in Vista.
Members of the Ramona Chamber of Commerce got tastes of the featured wines and beers during the chamber’s ribbon cutting on Friday, Jan. 27.
With a warm, rustic ambience, enhanced by lots of wood and deep colors, the new business has an L-shaped bar and various seating for patrons.
A contractor for 25 years, Marsh said his family owns El Tesoro Vineyard in Ranchita and hopes to sell their own wine by the end of the year.
Further business plans call for opening more wine and beer bars, he said.
“We have a focus on trying to put together six to seven wine bars in San Diego County by 2016,” he said.
Although no leases have been signed yet, Marsh has his sights on Carlsbad, Encinitas, Hillcrest/North Park, Old Town and Julian as possible locations.
Southern California Wine Co. is open Mondays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The wine and beer bar is closed on Tuesdays.
Located in the rear of the Ramona Business Barn, 369 Main St., Southern California Wine Co. is accessible through the front entrance or through a door on the east side. For more information, contact Nathan Marsh at 760-518-0296 or Garrett Marsh at 760-518-1229.
